Cheap Thrills at the D-List Ball

One of the most over-hyped events in the Toronto art world is the Power Plant's annual Power Ball. Now in its ninth year, the fundraiser which is perplexingly scheduled the same night (May 3rd) as a host of amazing CONTACT openings, sells tickets at the not-so artist friendly price of $160.

As a not so subtle nudge to the organizers, art dealers and "patrons to the arts" who will grace the Power Plant with their presence this Thursday, Gallery TPW, re-energized since their move to Ossington, is hosting their first annual D-List Ball two nights later on May 5th.

At a more artist-friendly price of $20, the D-List Ball, a fundraiser for the gallery, promises cheaper drinks, hipper music and - word has it - maybe even a juggler in a hotdog outfit. DJs include Will Munro and Jon Sasaki with music by Karl Lagerfeld's Ponytail and Black Turtleneck and there will be a performance by Darren O'Donnell.
