5 stunning provincial parks near Toronto

Here are 5 stunning provincial parks within about a three hour drive of Toronto.

Sandbanks
If you're looking for a beach vacation, but don't want to travel too far, head east towards Sandbanks Provincial Park. It's located in Prince Edward County, so be sure to visit a few wineries, cideries and local food producers before you settle down in the soft white sand.

Presqu'ile
With the second oldest operating lighthouse in Ontario, Presqu'ile makes for idyllic day trip or weekend getaway. Book a campsite, spend time hiking the park's many trails or simply stroll down the park's one-kilometre boardwalk.

Killbear
Georgian Bay is famous for its sunsets. And you can see one for yourself at Killbear. There's plenty to do here, whether you're looking to for an active weekend away or a more chilled out beach vacation.

Algonquin
There's nothing quite like an early morning paddle on one of the eerily smooth lakes in Algonquin. If you're lucky, you might even spot a moose playing by the shoreline. Come here for rugged landscape - there's a reason this park is our province's most famous one.

French River
The French River is a great option if you're looking to do a canoe trip without many portages. You'll likely encounter rapids, lots of wildlife and gorgeous scenery as you work your way up (or down) this Canadian Heritage River.

Note: All Ontario Provincial Parks will be celebrating Healthy Parks, Healthy People Day on July 15, 2016. That means that admission will be free for the day, up until 10 p.m (you'll have to pay to stay the night).
