Toronto

Hot Ticket: Allie Hughes, Henri Faberge & the Adorables, Hands & Teeth, Heartbeat Hotel, Justin Martin, Ryan Warner and The Moonlight Ride, Travis Caine & The Lasting Effect, Hellogoodbye, Interpol, School of Seven and more

Live music picks for WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 9 through TUESDAY FEBRUARY 15, 2011.

WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 9 / ALLIE HUGHES / THE DRAKE HOTEL / 1150 QUEEN ST W / $7 / 19+
Kick-start your Valentine's Day celebrations by bringing your love to The Drake Hotel to see Allie Hughes' Valentine Wedding Spectacular. A string quartet, along with Henri FabergĂŠ & the Adorables and cover band Dwayne Gretzky (includes members of Arkells & Sweet Thing) join the theatrical pop singer for a night of romance-celebrations.

THURSDAY FEBRUARY 10 / HANDS & TEETH / PARTS & LABOUR / 1566 QUEEN ST W / $7 / 19+
Toronto experimental pop collective Hands & Teeth showcase their 2010 album Enjoy Your Lifestyle at Parts & Labour. Listen to one of their tracks "Until the Night" on The Neighbourhood Mixtape, featuring Broken Social Scene's Lisa Lobsinger on guest vocals. Locals Heartbeat Hotel and Tender Lion are also part of the show line-up.

FRIDAY FEBRUARY 11 / JUSTIN MARTIN / WRONGBAR / 1279 QUEEN ST W / $10 / 19+
Justin Martin's debut The Sad Piano, along with recent EPs, has earned him praise as a legitimate international DJ. Representing the Bay Area's electronic underground, Martin brings his bubbling beats to Wrongbar on Friday night, turning the venue into a dance hub techno junkies will be lining up to get into.

SATURDAY FEBRUARY 12 / RYAN WARNER AND THE MOONLIGHT RIDE / RANCHO RELAXO / 300 COLLEGE ST / $6 / 19+
Ryan Warner's debut self-titled album has a really cool cover - a human shape-shifting into a wolf with Warner's name written in charming old-style restaurant typography. This should come as a warning that the album is filled with some sweet and some violence - just listen to a track like "Sweet Marie" with the lyric "we made love in a hurricane" followed by fits of howling "woos". His experimental, garage rock style calls to mind bands like Wolf Parade and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. Ottawa's Old Crowns and locals Travis Caine & The Lasting Effect join Ryan Warner and The Moonlight Ride at Rancho Relaxo on Saturday night.

SUNDAY FEBRUARY 13 / HELLOGOODBYE / TATTOO ROCK PARLOUR / 567 QUEEN ST W / $17.50 / ALL AGES
Long Beach, California's Hellogoodbye bring their sugary, multi-instrumental tracks to Tattoo Rock Parlour. Their latest album Would it Kill You? is a college party soundtrack, comprised of bubblegum synths, guitar, ukulele and frantic drums. Joining them will be You, Me and Everyone We Know, Gold Motel and Now, Now Every Children.

TUESDAY FEBRUARY 15 / INTERPOL / SOUND ACADEMY / 11 POLSON ST / $32.50 / ALL AGES
Interpol's debut record Turn on the Bright Lights will always be one of my favourite albums, but like The Strokes Is This It, it's difficult, if not impossible, to create a second album with similar success, let alone a fourth (a self-titled album was released last September). Yet Interpol remain a solid band crafting soaring anthems like the single "Barricade". Brooklyn's School of Seven Bells joins the Tuesday night show.
