Soulwax at Mod Club

Dance music enthusiasts have been spoiled lately - so much so that it's been hard to make it out to all of the events happening. Last night, A.D/D. brought Belgian electro-rock mashup masters Soulwax (aka 2MANYDJS) to Mod Club. Soulwax tore it up for a thinner than expected but super appreciative and excited crowd. Perhaps many that made it out to the Harvest Festival this weekend didn't have any energy left to make it out to the Mod Club last night for the rainy Monday night show.

JDH and Dave P started out with a fairly tight, eclectic DJ set but with a very thin crowd highschooling it at the back and all of maybe four people brave enough to shake a booty at the front of the dance floor, it was more like a waiting game than anything.

Things really picked up when Soulwax - a five man experimental electronic/rock fusion project - came on. The sound was loud but quality, and the lights frantic. Most notable was the crowd - who were really into it. Song after song, the front of the dance floor was kicking, and the back of the room bopping.

It being Monday night, I had to do my best disappearing ninja impersonation right after the Soulwax set, missing the 2ManyDJs set. A number of people are already calling the night "show of the year" but until the year is up, I'll have to call it a contender.

Check out a few select Soulwax tracks on their myspace site.
