Yorkville to host free outdoor film screening next month

Before the TIFF Bell Lightbox, Trump, Shangri-La and Ritz Carlton hotels opened up downtown, Yorkville was the go-to place for celebrity-spotting during the Toronto International Film Festival. Now, coinciding with TIFF's 40th birthday, the glitzy neighbourhood is hosting a free film screening during the festival's opening weekend.

Held by the massive rock at the Village of Yorkville Park, by Cumberland and Bellair, the Film By the Rock event will show the Imitation Game from 8-10 p.m. outside on Saturday, September 12. The movie won the People's Choice Award at last year's festival and it stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Kiera Knightly. It also racked up numerous Oscar nominations.

The festival has been celebrating its 40th anniversary throughout the summer with its TIFF in Your Park films series held in public spaces across the GTA. But, screenings during the 10-day festival are definitely not free. So if you're not planning on shelling out cash to see a TIFF movie, Film By the Rock is an alternate way to get into the film fest spirit.
