For the Bible Tells Me So at Doc Soup

Doc Soup screens another compelling film tonight as part of their ongoing monthly documentary series. For the Bible Tells Me So follows the lives of a number of conservative Christian families in the US who are forced to confront their beliefs about homosexuality when their kid reveals they're gay.

I've watched a preview copy of the film and it's one of the best docs I've seen yet this year. Director Daniel Karslake does a masterful job demonstrating that the Church-sanctioned anti-gay bias that permeates these family's beliefs is based almost solely upon a significant - and often malicious - misinterpretation of the Bible.

The film won the Audience Award for Best Documentary at the Seattle International Film Festival and was recently shortlisted for a 2008 Academy Award. Director Daniel Karslake will be in attendance to introduce the film and to participate in post-screening discussions with the audience.

For the Bible Tells Me So screens tonight, Wednesday, January 9, at 6:30 and 9:15 pm at the Bloor Cinema, 506 Bloor Street West
