Future of Tilley Endurables clothing company in doubt

The owner of an iconic Toronto clothing business is hanging up his floppy, weatherproof fisherman's hat, leaving the company's future uncertain. Tilley Endurables, a homegrown line beloved by sailors, campers and outdoorsy types of all stripes, is being put up for sale by Alex Tilley, now 77, who launched the business in 1984.

The company, best known for its eponymous "Tilley hats", has proudly positioned its products as being made in Canada, with most of them stemming from a Don Mills factory located behind their flagship store. Though company reps tell the Toronto Star they're hoping to find a Canadian buyer, it's not yet known whether or not one of the few remaining Canadian-made clothing lines will stay that way.
