Toronto Fashion Week

This Week in Fashion: World MasterCard Fashion Week, The Man Repeller book signing, Reia Sample Sale

This Week in Fashion rounds up the week's style news, store openings and closings, pop-up shops, sales and upcoming fashion and design events in Toronto. Find it here every Wednesday morning.

NEWS

World MasterCard Fashion Week is just around the corner, which means David Pecaut Square (221 King St W) will soon be taken over by large white tents, outrageous fashions both on and off the runway, and Canadian designers ranging from the budding to beloved. Don't miss Pink Tartan in all its veteran glory, or international labels like JNBY hit Canadian tents for the first time next week (October 21 - 26). Visit the official website for a full list of designers and a calendar of events.

EVENTS/PARTIES

This Thursday (October 17), visit Holt Renfrew's Bloor Street location (50 Bloor St W) for a rare sighting of unconventional fashion's headliner: The Man Repeller's Leandra Medine. At 5:30 pm, the blogger-writer extraordinaire will be chatting live with Fashion Magazine's online editor Randi Bergman and signing books in celebration of her first published work, Man Repeller: Seeking Love, Finding Overalls.

Along with many other industries, fashion is taking a noticeable turn towards the digital age (a conclusion made by me after watching the growth of e-commerce and the oddly significant influence of fashion bloggers). For this reason, Fashion Forward is hosting the second instalment of Fashion in the Digital World tonight (October 16) from 6 pm until 8:30 pm at the Hard Rock CafĂŠ (279 Yonge St), featuring panellists from online destinations Modreal, Freedom Culture, Luevo, and Shop Society. Aside from their presentations and Q&A sessions, there'll be allotted time for networking with industry professionals. Tickets range from $5 to $15 and are available online.

Get up bright and early (or at least earlier than you might expect for this sort of thing) this Sunday (October 20) for yet another Vintage Clothing Show - this time situated at Wychwood Barns (601 Christie St). From 11 am until 4 pm, peruse a large selection of one-of-a-kind clothing, shoes, accessories, and textiles from over 30 vendors across Quebec and Ontario. Admission is $8 for adults, and free for children 12 and under.

SALES

The massive, coveted Reia Sample Sale is back and ready for action, starting today (October 16) and running until Friday (October 18). This time around, don't miss your chance at snagging men's or women's designer labels at a fraction of the cost - including pieces by Alexander McQueen, Givenchy, and YSL - on the sixth floor of 639 Queen Street West.

On Saturday (October 19), Pinewood Film Studio (255 Commissioner St) will be home to this season's CAFTCAD Movie Wardrobe Sale, where over 30 vendors will offer their outrageous and unique clothing from 9 am until 5 pm. It'll be a mix of high-end, classic, and vintage garments, plus a few wardrobe supplies here and there at discounted prices. The $5 admission will go towards CAFTCAD's upcoming projects.
