This Week in Fashion: ALDO Rise hits stores, Stylicity takes over Toronto, Ryerson hosts diversity talks, Jacob sells discounted jeans

ALDO Rise S/S 2012 Hits Stores
Aldo is my mortal enemy of shoe retailers - to say I don't like their overpriced, poor quality products is an understatement - but I'll admit this set of six designer collaborations is impressive. Participating designers are JW Anderson, Preen, Libertine, Christian Cota, Chushnie et Ochs, and Canadian great Mark Fast. The shoes are available in Aldo stores across Canada on March 8TH. Oh, and the collection also has its own Tumblr, because doesn't everybody these days?

Ryerson Hosts Diversity Fashion Talks
Ben Barry, CEO of his self-titled model and talent agency for "real women" will moderate a discussion hosted by Ryerson University's School of Fashion about the need for greater diversity in the industry. A panel of experts including Brian Bailey, Suzanne Boyd, and several Ryerson professors will lead the discussion. March 8, 6:00 p.m.-8:00p.m., Ryerson Univeristy, 380 Victoria St., 2nd Floor, POD 250.

Stylicity Takes Over Toronto
Mastercard's Stylicity gets avid shoppers 20 per-cent off at fashion retailers, restaurants, and spas around town from March 9-25, but only if they pay with Mastercard. Participating retailers include Ciao Wine Bar, Pink Tartan, Rac Boutique, Brassaii, Chocolate Shoes, F as in Frank, Fresh Collective, Leigh & Harlow, and so many more.

Mass Exodus 2012 Tickets for Sale
Ryerson's Mass Exodus just might be the city's longest-running fashion affair. For over sixty years, fourth-year Design students have put on the largest student-run fashion event in North America; they coordinate everything from model selection, choreography, set design, PR, and even website development. Tickets are on sale now for this year's April 11 showcase.

Jacob Sells Cheap(er) Denim
For a limited time, all denim styles on Jacob.ca are going for a reduced rate of $39.90. Yes, even the hot-to-trot coloured denim. Their website assures me that their jeans are so "slim and trim," everyone will be calling me "Miss Fancy Pants." Points for effort; deductions for unbearable kitsch and $9 shipping.
