LFW Fall 2007: Comrags

After 22 years, one can say that Comrags is a fixture in the Toronto fashion scene. The fall 2007 show was another invited only affair. I wasn't sure about attending their show at first, I changed my mind after looking at the Spring 2007 collection.

Comrags, like some of their European counterparts, played with texture this fall by utilizing knits and several types of wool fabric. Hairy wool fabric created 他 length jackets, dresses and skirts. Puckered wool turned up in pullovers and coats. Lighter fabrics like satin, silk and shiny cotton rounded out the collection in shirts, tops and dresses. The colour scheme featured brown, red, blue, black, plaid, white and taupe.

Comrags describes itself as modern and uncomplicated. It combines function and style without sacrificing one or the other. Dress silhouettes included a-line, shift, drop waist and sheath. Skirts came in the high-waisted, pencil and a-line variety.

Most of the pants featured were skinny and cropped but there were wide legged pants in the collection. They have the cutest non-leather cropped pants and they have perfected the skinny cut I crave in cropped pants. Gaucho capris are on my list of horrible fashion silhouettes.

The hairy wool series was a wonderful surprise. I wish I could have touched one of the garments; I'm dying to know if the wool is as soft as it looks. Of the silk dupioni series, I loved the Eggplant dress and red shirt. The shadow plaid dresses looked great layered with a sweater and belted. Look out for the next possible it bag. The first model of the show walked out with a huge structured leather bag. Apparently, they will be available for the fall season.
