Gluten-free restaurant in Toronto nailed with 15 infractions by health inspectors

A restaurant in Toronto known for their gluten-free takes on Asian cuisine was just slapped with 15 infractions by health inspectors.

Riz has a location at 3321 Yonge St. that just received a conditional pass on March 24.

The restaurant also has a location on St. Clair, and is known for serving favourites like sushi, pad thai and dumplings.

Of the 15 infractions the North York location received, four were crucial, six were significant and four were minor, and they also received one other infraction.

The four crucial infractions included "food premise maintained in manner permitting adverse effect on food," storing ice in an unsanitary manner and failing to protect food from contamination.

The six significant infractions included failing to maintain handwashing stations with liquid soap and paper towels, failing to protect against the harbouring of pests and failing to retain records of pest control measures taken.

They also failed to keep the "sanitary facility sanitary" and equip it with single service towels or a dryer.

The four minor infractions included the food handling room not being maintained in sanitary condition with the ceiling in good repair and free from equipment not regularly used.

Their one other infraction was for failing "to ensure presence of food handler or supervisor during all hours of operation."

All infractions for Riz can be found on the DineSafe website.
