Malaysian Bazaar the latest Toronto food fest bust

The way things went down at Malaysian Bazaar last night demonstrates yet again the sad state of Toronto food festivals. There were several problems reminiscent of other disappointing food fests that resulted in hangry and disillusioned attendees.

The event was held at the William Doo Auditorium at UofT. Over 1,000 people RSVPd on the event's Facebook page, with another 2,000 people having expressed interest in attending.

Early on in the night the organizers had to temporarily close off the entrance due to overcapacity.

Dear guests, at the moment we have too many people inside the hall beyond its capacity, so we're closing our doors till 6.40 pm to clear the crowd a little bit.don't worry, we still have plenty of food!

A number of people expressed their dismay online, citing the anxiety-inducing overcrowded space, sold-out vendors and general disorderliness. In a Reddit thread sparked by a photo captioned with "Another food fest, another shit show," one commenter likened the scene to "Uncle Tetsu's on a Sunday morning."

But while the event seems to have engendered plenty of negative responses, there have also been inklings of positive feedback. One Reddit user wrote that "the food was awesome" despite the poor organization. Others on Facebook praised the event for the impressive performances.

Here are some of the reactions.
