Long-running Queen St. spot Red Tea Box closes

After 14 years at Queen and Bathurst, Red Tea Box has announced its closure. The longtime West Queen West fixture, which stood out in the local landscape thanks to its red-painted exterior and window displays of fanciful cakes, was known for its charming, cozy atmosphere (if slow service), inventive Japanese-inspired lunch dishes, and afternoon tea services.

Store staff posted a lengthy note in the window of the store earlier this week, explaining that the cafe had "lost its chief creative officer due to long overdue familial obligations" and adding that they'd rather close their doors than compromise quality. (They also add a reminder to "live more and blog less".) It's not yet known what will arrive in the new space.
