Beer for Boobs Toronto

Toronto's female brewers get some time in the spotlight

While the name of the event raises an interesting conundrum about the potential trade value of the two items in question, rest assured you won't be asked to exchange one for the other at the first ever "Beer for Boobs" event at Bar Volo on March 25th.

Instead, Beer for Boobs will feature a group of passionate female brewers from Toronto who have come together to produce one-off beers with the intention of donating the proceeds to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

From 2pm-8pm, a team of all female brewers from Mill Street, Black Oak, Steam Whistle, Amsterdam, Kensington Brewing, and the Granite Brewpub will take over the taps at Bar Volo to pour some beers they've each created as well as beer on which they've all collaborated specifically for the event.

Information about the beers that will be on hand is scant (you have to go to find out!) but what little info is available so far is intriguing. Tracy Phillipi of Black Oak has mentioned a dry-hopped Black IPA and, according to Amsterdam's blog, Morgan Wielgosz from Amsterdam has teamed up with Jenn Robitaille from Magnota Winery and Kaitlin Vandenbosch of Mill Street to brew an 80 Shilling (a classic Scottish ale).

If these mouth-watering options aren't enough to peak your interest, the list of other unique beer names should be: On tap will be Saison De Filles, Lassie's 80, Rosie the Riveter, Bitter Black Beauty, Freya's Tears, Cocoa Inferno and Mezza Notte Espresso.

In addition to raising money for a good cause, organizers are hoping to shed a little light on an oft-overlooked segment of the city's burgeoning beer scene — namely Toronto's female brewers, a talented bunch who are sure to impress with their concoctions this weekend.

The event will also feature raffled donations from local breweries and businesses and food will be provided by Alli's Fresh Baked. Tickets are $20 with all proceeds going to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.
