There's a massive freedom rally and protest against Iran near Toronto this weekend

As the international community watches in awe of the sheer bravery and courage of Iranian women admist the 12th day of protests in the country, a freedom rally has been organized just north of the borders of Toronto.

Iranian-Canadians for Justice & Human Rights, an organization comprised of community leaders and activists, is hosting a rally in hopes of bringing together Canadians from all walks of life in defense of the people of Iran.

Iranian people, particularly its brave women, are actively protesting the country's regime and seeking to replace it with one that celebrates democracy, human rights, and equality.

Over the past week, several protests have erupted across multiple cities in Iran, which were sparked by the death of 22-year-old Kurdish-Iranian woman Mahsa Amini in police custody.

Amini was detained by Iran's morality police on Sept. 13 for failing to adhere to the country's strict hijab laws. Amini's brother was told she would be taken to a detention centre to receive training on rules regarding headscarves, but she collapsed from a heart attack and died on Sept. 16 after being in a coma for three days.

Multiple witnesses claim she was beaten to death by the morality police in their patrol car on the way to the detention centre.

Hamed Esmaeilion, President and Spokesperson of the Association of Families of Flight PS752, will be the keynote speaker for the rally, and multiple other speakers will be in attendance.

The Time Has Come: Freedom Rally for Iran begins on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 2 p.m. at Yonge Street and 16th Avenue in Richmond Hill.

The march will move to Richmond Hill Central Library by 3 p.m.
