Black Lives Matter just called Trudeau a white supremacist

In protest of Donald Trump's travel ban, thousands of people took to the streets of Toronto this past weekend to fight against Islamophobia and white supremacy.

The crowd peacefully marched down University Avenue before heading to Yonge-Dundas Square. Along the way, numerous speakers addressed the crowd, emphasizing the importance of standing up to hatred.

An excerpt from one speech, however, is gaining traction for all the wrong reasons. It's reportedly by Black Lives Matter co-founder Yusra Khogali.

In it, the speaker responds to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau after he tweeted out that Canada would be open to those affected by Trump’s Muslim travel ban. However, Immigration Minister Ahmed Hussen later said Canada would not be increasing the number of refugees it admits.

She says Trudeau's message was manipulative, and conceals the history of racism Canada is founded on.

"When Justin Trudeau says that he is a liar," she says, "he is a hypocrite, he is a white supremacist terrorist."

While certain parts of this speech certainly appear inflammatory, some argue that in anti-racism circles, the term white supremacist or white supremacy can refer to an ideology – whether overt or systemic - that preferences white folks over racialized peoples.

In this case, it could be divorced from the more commonly understood definition.

A list of Black Lives Matter Toronto's demands has been posted to their Facebook page.

A full excerpt from the speech is provided below.

When this shooting happened, there was a hashtag that went viral on social media saying that we need to pray for Quebec City. Quebec City is a white supremacist settler colony.

When Justin Trudeau responded to the Muslim ban that this coward, this white supremacist coward, Donald Trump, put forward, what did Justin Trudeau say?

He said he wanted to accept everyone who is not allowed into the US border to Canada. Don't cheer! Do not cheer, because we know what exactly that is. We know what that manipulation is.

It is what this country is founded on: erasure and silencing of the real history of this land: the genocide of indigenous people on which this state is founded on, the enslavement and genocide of black people on which this state founded on, the indentured slavery of racialized people on which this state is founded on.

When Justin Trudeau says that, he is a liar, he is a hypocrite, he is a white supremacist terrorist. That is what he is. Do not be fooled by this Liberal bullshit.

When mayor John Tory said that Toronto is a sanctuary for refugees, when black people are being murdered in the city, we have questions: What happened to Andrew Loku? What happened to Jermaine Carby? What happened to Abdirahman Abdi?

How is the city a sanctuary when black people are being murdered so mercilessly?
