No Frills store suddenly shuts down in Toronto

After a sudden announcement posted on the store's front windows yesterday, Parkdale's notorious No Frills grocery store has closed up shop.

Though the sign states the closure is temporary, citing "emergency roof repair," many fear that Vi's No Frills at 1435 King St. W., won't open again if it follows the trend of other surprise No Frills closures.

The Coxwell and Gerrard location closed in a similar way last spring announcing a temporary closure for "building repairs and renovations." That store has yet to reopen.

Staff were reportedly notified and told to look for work at other locations.

It's the only major grocery store in the King and Jameson area of Parkdale and will most definitely be a loss for the neighbourhood. There will be shuttles running every 15 minutes from the Parkdale No Frills to the next closest - and one of the city's finest locations - at Lansdowne and Dundas West.
