We have lots to be thankful for this year in Toronto. Naturally, all many of us can think of right now are the Blue Jays, but there's more to this city than baseball (like hockey, for instance). As you sit and digest your turkey, take a moment to think about what you're grateful for.

Here's a things to give thanks for in Toronto this year.

Blue October
First the Toronto Blue Jays took took the wild card game, and now they're ALDS winners after sweeping those pesky Texas Rangers in three games. As the games get more important, these guys just seem to get better.

We're thinking big about this city's future
Our city's slated to get some awesome new features in the public realm within the next few years, including (hopefully) the Rail Deck Park and The Bentway, to make the city even more liveable than it already is.

We live in one of the greatest cities in the world
Toronto's consistently ranked as one of the most liveable cities in the world. And we're even a sought-after travel destination, well, at least according to Google.

Art in reimagined places
This past year, Luminato hosted its entire festival at the Hearn and built a theatre and a gourmet restaurant inside the decommissioned power plant. The In/Future Festival also reanimated a closed down space by bring life back into Ontario Place. Efforts like this pave the way for more novel uses of our abandoned spaces.

We've got a shiny new live music venue
Everyone loathed the Sound Academy. It was far, had terrible acoustics and was hard to move around in. Now, it's been revamped as Rebel, giving us a better music venue right on the water.

Auston Matthews has given Leafs fans real hope
Matthews, the Leaf's number one draft pick, was considered a top prospect and has already proved himself in the preseason and during the World Cup of Hockey. Could this be the beginning of a return to respectability and even competitiveness?

Our tech sector
Big companies are investing in Toronto, we have a thriving startup community and a tech scene that rivals almost any city in North America. We now have a reputation as a city home to top tech talent and innovative startups that are known around the world.

A brand new neighbourhood
The Pan Am Games are so last year, but we're finally reaping the rewards from hosting because Canary District is finally up and running. It's home to an amazing YMCA, condos, rentals and slate of fabulous restaurants and shops.

Gold medal winners
Toronto athletes did our city proud at the summer Olympics in Brazil. Most famously, H]high schooler brought home four medals and Andre de Grasse won three, along with a bromance with Usain Bolt.

More bike lanes
Bloor Street finally got bike lanes as part of a pilot project this summer, Lower Bayview is in the midst of a biking revamp, and parts of North York are slated to get them too. According to a new poll, 70 per cent of Torontonians like bike lanes - now, we just need even more of them.
