Toronto city council's Gardiner East debate must have angered the gods. A sudden, torrential downpour combined with powerful winds and hail struck during the afternoon commute, causing numerous flash floods across the city.

Shortly after 6 p.m., a powerful line of storms passed over Toronto, flooding roads, underpasses, and parking lots. Although the rain was intense at times, it was short lived. Still, there were reports of flash floods and downed trees. Museum station was briefly closed and there were problems on the 501 Queen, 505 Dundas, and 506 Carlton streetcars.

A couple of small outages in southwestern Scarborough, Yonge and Dundas, and Ossington and Bathurst between College and St. Clair area are listed on Toronto Hydro's outage map. Up to 600 buildings may be affected, though no official number has been posted yet.
