Occupy Toronto has very much been a movement marked by its signs. Most protests are. But there's an added dimension here that relates to the charge that the local occupation is too wide in its focus. What better way to gain insight into the subject of the occupiers' discontent than by looking at what it is that they've highlighted for criticism?

The signs that compose the collection below range from the brilliant to the bush league and cover enough territory to give credence to the critics who claim that the participants' lack clearly defined goals and are thus unlikely to accomplish anything. It's not, however, particularly difficult to pick out the common motifs. The target of these protests is, generally speaking, late capitalist culture itself and the alleged bankruptcy of an economic system that the occupiers believe is corrupt. Here are the placards to prove it.
