TTC Station Naming

Want to name some subway stations (for real this time)?

The last time there was talk of naming subway stations it was back in late March when the TTC decided it might be able to generate some revenue via the sale of station and line naming rights to corporate interests. So far nothing has come of this (though the possibility certainly exists that it might), but in the meantime the TTC is asking for a bit of help from the public to name the stations along the Spadina subway extension.

It's unclear just how much sway the public will have in the process, but insofar as the internet survey takes almost no time to complete, why not throw in your two cents? Along with a proposal to rename Downsview Station to Sheppard West — which would reduce confusion when a station located in Downsview Park eventually opens — the public is asked to weigh in on an additional five stations. In each case, the TTC provides three possible names for each station plus a form to fill in your own (surely the most enticing option).

Most of the suggestions are geographically themed (as the TTC wants them to be) and thus quite conservative, but one interesting possibility is Ian Macdonald Station, which would be the main stop at York University and take the name of one of its its former presidents. I'm not sure I like this idea in particular, but getting a bit more creative with station names sounds good to me. So fill in your surveys and let us know some of your ideas in the comments!
