What's happening in the GTA (and sometimes beyond):

Prime Minister Harper will be in Brampton today, congratulating himself and praising his party for keeping Canada's recession in such grrreat shape. It's like a potato chip eater bragging about surviving double bypass heart surgery when his pork rind eating neighbour had a quad. Oh, if only I had a pie, guts, and the day off work...

A poll suggests that the national Do-Not-Call (DNC) list is having a positive effect, and less people are being harassed by telemarketers these days. But the recent surge in annoyance caused by one asinine US-based company (who uses some computer system to randomly dial numbers, including those on the DNC list) may be confusing people and creating a myth that the DNC list was compromised.

A Mississauga tattoo parlour is in hot water, and as many as 3000 former customers in potential danger and are being urged to get their blood tested for HIV, and Hepatitis. Poor record-keeping means that they can't produce proof of sterilization, and public health somehow managed to fail to keep up with their prescribed minimum inspection visits as well.

Fire kills about as many people in Toronto as guns do, but there's no mass movement to ban fire. But a fire safety blitz is currently underway, and it is the law to have functional smoke detectors in your home.
