What's happening in the GTA:

Not a good weekend for Mayor Miller to try to focus our attention on the reduced gun crime this year, although it's hard to blame him for trying in the wake of two more homicides. On Saturday it was innocent bystander Baily Zaveda caught in the crossfire of a gun battle in Leslieville. There's already a Canada-wide warrant out for the arrest of Kyle Weese, who is a very familliar name to police. Then on Sunday it was a man found dead in a car, the city's 61st homicide victim of the year.

Canadians generally support Obama south of the border, but does Canada have its own Barack Obama? How about Argo CEO Michael "Pinball" Clemons? Some Liberals and political headhunters think he's got what it takes. It's not a bad idea, I hear Pinball looks great in front of Greek columns.

In the "I'm exhausted just thinking about it" category, thousands of people ascended the CN Tower this weekend - on the stairs. It was all for a good cause, but I'm left wondering, at what point do your legs start yelling "next time just write a cheque!"

Peter Tabuns, Toronto-Danforth MPP, announced his bid to be leader of the Ontario NDP. The former Greenpeace Canada leader wants to bring jobs and focus on "the environmental crisis." I care about the environment as much as the next guy, but these days it's the wrong "e" word - it's the economy, stupid.

Parents and children had fun in High Park this weekend carving and floating pumpkins. The children opted for more traditional Jack O'Lanterns, but I wonder if older Toronto residents will have the US election on their minds when it comes time to carve the big orange squash. Obama fever isn't limited to rallies and buttons south of the border; there's an Obama stencils on my refrigerator, and a big pumpkin out front. For those looking to really scare their neighbours, I recommend the Palin stencil.
