Your Toronto morning news roundup for Tuesday September 16th, 2008:

The TSX took another nose-dive yesterday, after the ongoing financial crisis in the US reared its head in a big way (some are calling it the worst crisis since the great depression). We're not immune from an economic meltdown in Canada, so take my advice and start buying and hiding silver bars in the floorboards.

An inquest into the death of a patient at CAMH in 2005 is underway. What we know so far is that a patient that suffered from a mental illness (which led to him seeking sexual interactions with nearby people in order to spare him from attack by a "world army") was restrained to his bed for 5 days, and upon release he died.

If you do your own home renovations that might affect the structural integrity of your home, be sure you do it right. Otherwise, the city might have to bring in the bulldozers and demolish it.

In what might be the best food article I've ever seen on CityNews, they call to question whether or not beloved diner Stem will reopen or not, and provide a photo-heavy roundup of some of Toronto's best remaining diners.

A Toronto police officer shot himself by accident during a takedown/arrest. Oops.

Back in the day, garbage collection happened more often than it does currently. And we now use green bins for food waste. What happens when the garbage collectors skip you over during collection? It becomes a stench-emanating raccoon beacon that you have to live with for days. And apparently it happens to many people, often.
