Your (what the heck is wrong with?) Toronto morning news roundup for Monday June 23rd, 2008:

More than a week ago, two men were shot and killed in a vehicle in the downtown core. Police have still not determined a motive or declared any suspects in what continues to appear to be a random, cold-blooded double-murder. The mothers of the victims are now speaking out publicly.

Imagine going to check on your infant daughter in her bedroom, to find a man reaching in through an open window, attempting to take her? A Toronto mother is probably feeling like the luckiest unlucky person in the world right now, after her screaming thwarted the abduction attempt. Catch this guy, please. And the person driving the getaway car.

Is George Smitherman being primed for a run against Mayor Miller in the 2010 municipal election? Smitherman's appointment as Minister of Energy and Infrastructure is being touted as the experience he needs to do just that.

In the past, rat poison and insecticide have been intentionally planted in city parks to harm visiting animals. This time, five dogs are seriously ill after antifreeze was intentionally added to hydrants used to deliver water to dog fountains. WTF is wrong with people?

Toronto residents that live on the northernmost section of the Yonge subway line and use the subway late at night will have to get used to taking the bus instead. Tunnel work will be performed every night of the week except Saturdays, shutting down subway service from Lawrence to Finch at about 12:30am (rather than 2am). This will go on into 2009, and have many people wondering if they couldn't start working on the repairs 90 minutes later every night instead.
