Your Toronto afternoon news roundup for Victoria Day Monday May 19th, 2008:

In addition to many wacky news items, the circus is actually in town. Today is your last chance to check out the Toronto International Circus Festival down at Harbourfront, and it's a beautiful day to boot.

A different kind of circus (of the insane medical emergency variety) took place at a house party in Hamilton last night. A dispute ended with a man getting rushed to hospital and when police arrived at the house, they found his chopped off hand on the driveway. Surgeons are attempting to reunite the man with his limb.

239km/h in an 80km/h zone?! That's right. A 17-year old teen was caught in Barrie speeding at 139 159km/h over the posted limit. In my opinion, this guy should never, ever drive again. At speeds like that, he put the lives of many people in danger.

Fireworks shot onto an apartment balcony resulted in $50,000 in damages, but thankfully no one was seriously hurt. Every Victoria Day and Canada Day there are a few stories like this, but the stupidity and carelessness of people never ceases to amaze me.

In sports: the Toronto FC are unbeaten in 5 games. Not bad! Sadly our national hockey team lost to Russia.
