Morning Brew: May 1st, 2007

Your morning news roundup (slightly delayed due to sleep deprivation and a slow server) for Tuesday May 1st, 2007:

The mayor's executive committee approved the Astral Media street furniture program - a 20-year contract that will adorn public space (bus shelters, garbage cans, etc) with advertising. 20-years?!

Etobicoke councillors Holyday and Ford spend so little of their allocated operating funding that the city's executive committee has asked for an audit of their finances. Where is the money for all of their office supplies coming from - their own pockets, or elsewhere?

Facebookers spanked. This time, a group of 8th grade students at Willowbrook Public School are being accused of posting inappropriate comments about their teacher. The punishment? Banned from a field trip to Montreal. And the crime? According to one of the students they "wrote that she once rubbed herself in back of the class." Forget the missed field trip, for remarks like that the whole lot of them should be shot!

The Crossroad Puzzle is having minor surgery but will be back next week.
