Shad to replace Ghomeshi as host of CBC's Q

Canadian rapper Shad has been tapped to permanently replace Jian Ghomeshi as the host of the CBC's radio show Q, the Globe and Mail announced Tuesday night. Following Ghomeshi's ouster last year after accusations of sexual assault by multiple women, the network kept its flagship arts and culture show afloat, bringing on a number of guest hosts on board for weeklong stints.

That lineup included Shad, a previous Q guest, who ably navigated interviews with Miranda July, Art Spiegelman and Evangeline Lilly during his time as host. (He also drew ire from some listeners who groused over his use of the word "dope" and choice of "not office-friendly" hip-hop - whose opinions, mercifully, didn't seem to factor much into the CBC's decision.)

It's a perfect choice for a broadcaster looking to refresh their image post-Ghomeshi mud-spattering and boost their cred with younger Canadians (as well as a sizeable number of Americans, who listen to the show on about 100 licensee radio stations). If you'd like to congratulate him in person, he's playing Massey Hall on March 27.
