Book Scene: Giller Bash and Toronto Books

Congrats to Erin, the winner of last week's book giveaway (the correct answer was Colony of Unrequited Dreams).

If you haven't started yet, now's a good time to bust out that book you've got locked away in your subconscious - November is National Novel Writing month

Today you can head to TINARS at the Gladstone for a free soiree for Ben Schott's book launch for Schott's Almanac 2007. "Trivia pop quiz, prizes, and more!" says the press release.

Tuesday you can do it up old school at the Scotiabank Giller Light Bash. The Gillers will be live on CTV during prime time (broadcast from the Four Seasons), and for a mere 25$ you can head to the Steam Whistle Roundhouse to watch and celebrate CanLit the old fashioned way. I'll be there.

Tickets are available from Book City or the website (link above). 7p - 1a. Proceeds from the tickets go to programs to help inner city kids with their reading and writing.

Also Tuesday, the Toronto Women's Bookstore, Ontario College of Art and Design and Duke University Press launch Taboo Memories, Diasporic Voices by Ella Shohat. 7p at Innis Town Hall, tix 7 - 20$.

Friday, TWB launches TOK: Book 1 a collection of writings (short fic and poetry) set entirely in Toronto edited by Helen Walsh. 7p, free. Nosh and drinks.

Saturday and Sunday there's a premiere performance of Wide slumber for lepidopterists at Harbourfront. The project is a staged version of the book of poetry from a. rawlings. 8p, tickets are 15$. From the Harbourfront box office.
