Book Scene: AIDS Awareness

Women read more than men - more fiction and, just generally, more. And apparently they don't drink beer either.

Tuesday the 15th, Steve Simon launches his photo exhibition and book Heroes and Heroines, featuring the lives of people with AIDS. All royalties will be donated to charities in the Call to Action section. Gallery One, 121 Scollard St. 5p-8p.

On the 16th, Tracy Quan, author of Diary of a Married Call Girl, will have a book reading and signing at the AIDS 2006 Conference. All proceeds from book sales to be donated to the Network of Sex Work Projects Global Village Sex Work Networking Zone. MTCC North Building Hall A/B, 4pm.

Thursday the 17th, the Toronto Women's Bookstore begins their new reading series When the Rainbow Isn't Enough, featuring LGBTTQ2S writers of colour with Browngirlworld 6 at the Gladstone. Spoken word and drag performances by Osama Bin Thuggin, D-lishus, Keisha Williams, Alec Butler, Gein Wong, Lengua Latina, Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha. OmiSoore Dryden emcees, with DJ Jola taking over for the after party. Tickets 8-12$, doors at 7:30p, show at 8p.
