Toronto Island ferry

More daily ferry trips now available to the Toronto Islands

Toronto Island ferries kick off their spring schedule this weekend, meaning they'll be offering more daily trips bringing passengers to and from Centre Island, Ward's Island and Hanlan's Point.

Beginning on April 7, routes will resume to Centre Island and Hanlan's Point, which were not running during the winter. Ferries will leave from the mainland as early as 6:30 a.m., with the last boat departing from the islands at 11:30 p.m.

Operated by the city from the Jack Layton Ferry Terminal at the foot of Bay Street, the ferry transports hundreds of thousands of Torontonians each year, primarily during the summer months to experience the sandy beaches and amusement park at Centre Island.

During the off-season, the ferry's winter schedule from late October to mid-April only includes one route between Jack Layton and Ward's Island.

As of this weekend, ferry service will resume to all three docks, with multiple departures each hour from the city.

Centre Island is the most popular island of the three, best known for its amusement park Centreville and beautiful lookout point. While the rides and attractions don't open this year until May 6, you can still walk around and admire the skyline views and budding trees this spring.

Ward's Island on the eastern tip is the most residential, notably quieter compared to Centre Island. It also has a sandy beach, several cafes, and quiet paths to explore. Ward's also has the shortest ferry ride from the mainland.

Hanlan's Point on the western-most end of the islands features the Billy Bishop Airport, Gibraltar lighthouse, and of course, the only clothing-optional beach in Toronto.

You can purchase your tickets online in advance. Adult return trips cost $8.70 each, youth – which means 19 years old or under – and seniors pay $5.60,  while juniors (14 years old and younger) are only $4.10. Infants under two years old get in for free.
