Parkdale vs. Queen - This time, it's edjumacational!

With the school year soon coming to a close, the good folks of the award-winning contemporary, interdisciplinary theatre company Mammalian Diving Reflex have put together a simply incredible menu of real world experiences for the 647 kids of Parkdale Public School and the residents of West Queen West.

In what's being hailed as the duel in the 'dale, this multi-faceted event will mash-up the talents of generation Z students with their more established counterparts in the community. Here's a look at what's in store:

  • The Baking Club vs. Chef Isberg @ Coca Restaurant (783 Queen West)
Monday, June 16, from 5:30 pm until late, Chef Nathan Isberg of Czehoski and Coca Restaurants will work with the kids to present a prix fixe menu with accompanying beverages. For reservations, please call 416.703.0783
  • The Parkdale Strings vs. Blocks Recording Club @ The Gladstone Hotel (1214 Queen Street West)
Tuesday, June 17, at 7 pm, Blocks artists Kids on TV, The Phonemes and Bob Wiseman will all perform sets, and the kids will accompany them for one tune each. Cover is PWYC (free for public school students).
  • The A.D.D. DJs vs. LAL @ The Gladstone Hotel (1214 Queen Street West)
Tuesday, June 17, at 7 pm, after serious study with DJ Murr, producer of LAL, the kids will spin their stacks of wax side by side with the acclaimed A.D.D. DJs (of Nuit Blanche's Ballroom Dancing fame). Again, cover is PWYC (free for public school students).
  • The Art Club vs. Mercer Union Gallery @ Mercer Union Centre for Contemporary Art (37 Lisgar)
Saturday, June 21, 2008, at 1:30pm, the Art Club gets to analyse and critique exhibitions by Anne Fauteaux and Ana Teixeira. This is a free event.
  • Parkdale JK to 8 vs. Paramount Pictures
Scheduled for release this summer, Show and Tell is a feature length film written by and starring all the kids of PPS. Come on, how cool is that? Makes my education look like a farce.
