toronto cancun flights

Toronto is getting super cheap daily flights to Mexico's top vacation hotspot

There will be a new and cheap way to escape the deep freeze this winter, with budget airline Lynx Air announcing on Wednesday that it will launch daily flights connecting Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) with Cancun International Airport (CUN) next year.

Cancun will be Lynx's first destination in Mexico when flights take off from Toronto starting February 15, 2024, marking the third country and 18th destination for the 2022-launched affordable airline.

"We are thrilled to be offering an ultra-affordable option to Cancun, one of the most popular sun destinations in Mexico," said Vijay Bathija, Chief Commercial Officer of Lynx.

Lynx launched ticket sales for its newest destination on Wednesday morning, and for a limited time, the airline is offering airfares starting at $179, one way, including taxes and fees.

A sale launched at 6 a.m. Wednesday, offering up to 25 per cent off all base fares to and from Cancun and other sun destinations (use the promo code CANCUN). The sale runs until 11:59 p.m. on October 26 on Lynx Air's website.

The new route comes at a time of "incredibly high" demand for passengers travelling from Toronto Pearson, according to Janik Reigate, Director of Strategic Customer Relationships at the GTAA.

Reigate said in a statement that the GTAA welcomes the new service "as it will provide passengers with another option to fly to the sunny beaches of Mexico."

Low-cost carriers like Lynx have catapulted onto the travel scene in recent years, and their market share is only expected to grow in the future.

According to Fortune Business Insights, the global low-cost carrier market is expected to balloon from $261.42 billion in 2023 to $789.62 billion by 2030.
