Alan Cross leaves Corus Radio

Alan Cross leaves 102.1 The Edge and Corus Radio

I don't normally tune in to the comings and goings of Toronto radio personalities, but the news that Alan Cross's position as on-air host and senior program director at Corus Radio has been eliminated will surely be disappointing for many music fans. Cross, best known for his series the Ongoing History of New Music was an oasis on mainstream Toronto radio, someone whose passion for music could be downright inspirational.

"My position was eliminated because the division that I was working in was being completely reorganized and there was no position analogous to what I was doing," Cross told the Star. "We were trying to negotiate and figure out where traditional radio is going in the new media world."

Regardless of where radio is ultimately headed, one suspects that in the meantime Cross will land lightly. He's already received offers from other media outlets, and he's currently negotiating with Corus to stay on in a freelance capacity. Let's hope that means his hiatus from Toronto's airwaves is only temporary.
