The top 5 breakfast burgers in Toronto

Burgers for breakfast are hardly an anomaly in Toronto. In a city where poutine qualifies as morning food, it's unsurprising that Toronto restaurants are willing to top any indulgence with a fried egg and call it brunch.

Here are my picks for the top breakfast burgers in Toronto.

Corktown Kitchen
Wrap your hands around The Lot Burger ($16) off the brunch menu at this King East eatery. This beast features a five ounce beef patty loaded with house-smoked pork belly, a fried egg, cheese, and hollandaise sauce.

Fabbrica
Mark McEwan's Don Mills restaurant is a splurge-worthy brunch destination where the upscale brunch burger ($25) starts with a six ounce patty formed from PEI grass-fed beef. Instead of the usual condiments, this burger is upgraded with crispy genoa salami, antipasto, provolone, and arugula before being crowned with a sunny side up egg.

Thompson Diner
The 24-hour diner at the base of the Thompson Hotel is home to a hangover-curing brunch burger ($14.45) built on a sugar dusted doughnut. Topped with bacon, fried egg and melted cheddar, this handheld breakfast is served with homefries on the side.

The Borough
The full English breakfast burger ($14) served at brunch by this Brit-style local on the Danforth features an organic beef patty loaded onto a brioche bun and topped with a fried free run egg, aged cheddar, rasher bacon, sautĂŠed onions, tomato slices, greens and buttermilk dill dressing. As if that's not enough food, each order is served with a heaping pile of beans and potato hash on the side.

Momofuku Daisho
Served on weekends from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., there's only a short window to enjoy this brunch burger ($21) featuring melted Hades cheese, with coffee cured belly bacon, and a runny fried egg on a toasted bun.
