AfriVillage Street Festival

Amazin' Eats This Weekend at AfriVillage

I just got back from the AfriVillage Street Festival which is taking place this weekend on Bloor between Ossington and Crawford. For a Toronto street festival, it's not huge, but the food being cooked up definitely makes it worth a visit.

Among the standouts for me was the Ethiopian food from Addis Catering, the huge vat of fried plantain courtesy of Amazones, the Caribbean House's ackee and salt fish and the catfish in plantain leaves from one of the other food stalls.

But despite all the temptations on offer, my $7 today went to Pondicherry Catering which was attracting a growing throng of customers for their sizzling Murtabak. Pictured below, this Malaysian specialty is made with an incredibly thin crepe, folded into a square and filled with a mixture of beef, chicken and curry. I topped mine with a little bit of coconut sauce. Yum!
