The nominees for the 36th Annual Heritage Toronto Awards have been announced today. Nominations were solicited from public in four categories: the William Greer Architectural Conservation and Craftsmanship Award; Book; Media; and Community Heritage. Independent juries narrowed the list of nominees for the awards, which will be announced Tuesday, October 5th at Koerner Hall, The Royal Conservatory of Music.

The nominees for the William Greer Architectural Conservation and Craftsmanship category are owners who have restored or adapted buildings or structures that are at least 40 years old. The nominees are:

• Allstream Centre at 105 Princes' Blvd., Exhibition Place
• Bloor Gladstone Branch Library at 1101 Bloor St. W.
• Confederation Life Insurance Building at 20 Richmond St. E.
• Legislative Assembly of Ontario (Queen's Park) at 111 Wellesley St. W.
• Residence, 82 Lowther Avenue
• Royal Conservatory TELUS Centre for Performance and Learning at 273 Bloor St. W.
• The Toy Factory Lofts at 43 Hanna Ave.

The book category honours non-fiction authors who have published books in 2009 about Toronto's heritage and history. The nominees are:

• A Progressive Traditionalist: John M. Lyle, Architect by Glenn McArthur
• Art Deco Architecture in Toronto: A Guide to the City's Buildings from the Roaring Twenties and the Depression by Tim Morawetz
• The Beach: An Illustrated History from the Lake to Kingston Road by Glenn Cochrane & Jean Cochrane
• Death or Canada: The Irish Famine Migration to Toronto, 1847 by Mark G. McGowan
• The Humber River: The Carrying Place by Toronto and Region Conservation Authority
• The Plate: 150 Years of Royal Tradition from Don Juan to Eye of the Leopard by Louis E. Cauz & Beverley A. Smith
• Toronto's Visual Legacy: Official City Photography from 1856 to the Present by Steve MacKinnon, Karen Teeple, and Michele Dale
• University of Toronto: The Campus Guide: An Architectural Tour by Larry Wayne Richards
• The York Club: A Centennial History by Mary Byers
• York University: The Way Must Be Tried by Michiel Horn

The nominees in the media category, which includes films, videos, websites, and newspaper and magazine articles about Toronto's history are:

• Documentary "Death of Canada" by director Ruan Magan
• Documentary "Hangman's Graveyard" by director Mick Grogan

• Documentary "Violent August: The 1918 Anti-Greek Riots in Toronto" by director John Burry

The nominees for the community heritage award are:

• Chinese Canadian National Council Toronto Chapter
• St. Lawrence Neighbourhood Business Improvement Association (BIA)
• Leaside Property Owners' Association
• Markland Homes Association
