Morning Brew: Temporary Garbage Dumps, Cancelled Canada Day Events, Miller Miller Miller

What's happening in the GTA (and sometimes beyond):

Toronto is in trouble. Many are not happy with the mayor's performance. That much is clear. But stacking the front pages of Posted Toronto with so much Miller spanking makes a right-of-center media outlet look less "fair and balanced" than some even more skewed news networks out there.
1) Toronto on strike: David Miller hands keys to city hall to the union,
2) Mayor bows to reality on streetcar funding,
3) Torontonians feel overtaxed and underserviced, Ipsos Reid poll finds,
4) John Tory would beat David Miller, Ipsos-Reid poll finds,
5) Toronto on strike: Walkout is least of David Miller's problems.

It hasn't been long enough for most people to have to worry about (yet!), but the city seems poised for a long union strike and has announced the creation of 19 temporary public garbage dumps around the city (map below).

Swine flu concerns have shut down the nursery at Mount Sinai Hospital. Thankfully no newborns are believed to have been affected, but someone with a mild case of the flu was in contact with the unit and they're playing it safe. Ontario has had over 2600 confirmed cases of swine flu since the outbreak began.

And Canada Day is nigh, Toronto. Want to celebrate? Find your own party, folks. The city union strike has forced the cancellation of many planned Canada Day events, including the annual fireworks display at Ashbridges Bay.
