Your Toronto morning news roundup for Wednesday July 16th, 2008:

Video of interrogations of Omar Khadar, the Toronto-born prisoner being held at Guantanamo Bay and accused of killing an American medic, have garnered mixed reactions from Canadians and the world. Peppered throughout the over 1250 comments on the CBC article, the question remains: should he be extradited to Canada for trial, or should he remain in the (dubious at best) custody of US officials?

The role and powers TTC Special Constables possess have often been poorly understood by the public (no, they're not "just glorified security guards"). The Star aims to clear the air on this one, and also lists some interesting stats on charges and arrests made by the transit police. I would have expected more charges (beyond fare evasion and smoking), based on perceptions of crime on the system.

Stratford, our nearby, beloved theatre Mecca, is the latest to point to rising fuel costs for poor sales. In an internal memo, a 10% drop in attendance is being attributed to rising gas prices, and longer border crossing waits.

A Toronto Police canine unit truck ended up on top of another SUV after a collision in Scarborough. This week has been a rough one for Toronto Police (this being the third police vehicle to get smashed since Sunday).

And Jays fans are being asked to keep their clothes on during games at SkyDome after another incident involving a naked woman in a hotel room window. I guess when there's little excitement on the field, it inspires people to create their own.
