Your morning news roundup for "Wintry" Wednesday, February 6th, 2008:

For those of you that may have (somehow) missed it, Toronto's pretty messy this morning. A winter storm dumped a whole lot of snow on the ground while we slept, and some kids might be happy to know that there are a number of boards that have canceled busing and schools.

And while the pressing issue for the TDSB today may be busing because of the snow, it looks like they're having trouble keeping their pools open as well — the Board has said it needs another $12 million in order to keep running lessons and programs at their pools.

--

It's not only pools that are feeling the crunch: the members of the Dovercourt Boys and Girls Club and Davenport Perth Neighbourhood Centre, both United Way agencies that help community youth, are facing eviction because their leases are up.

While today may be a treacherous drive because of the snow, GTA drivers had a frightful drive yesterday because the threat of car-jacking. Arrests have now been made in a series of violent car thefts across the region.

After yesterday's big news about the hikes to fees for recreation facilities, the City is now retreating and saying a "clarifying statement" will be made to address the issues. Which is good, because community hockey rinks seem to be the only place Torontonians can watch good hockey this season, especially after last night's horrendous loss by the Leafs.
