Morning Brew: January 25th, 2007

Your morning news roundup for Thursday January 27th, 2007:

Toronto Police are continuing to train their eyes on the more problematic areas of the city. North York's Jane & Finch and Scarborough's Malvern communities will be under public video surveillance in a 6-month CCTV camera pilot project.

January 25th is tradtionally referred to as the "coldest day of the year" in our neck of the woods, and the city is issuing a cold weather alert as temperatures of -14oC and wind chills in the -20's are expected.

Pearson International Airport has invited the public to take a final stroll through Terminal 2 before they begin to tear it down. The removal of T2 marks the end of the airport's redevelopment, and will allow for the passage of 7-million more passengers annually.

Shopping for a house in Toronto is an eye-opening (i.e. frustrating and difficult) experience and looking at long-term home pricing trends tells quite the story too. The average selling price of a Toronto home in 1981 was $90,203 and at the end of 2006 is about $351,941.

Our emergency room waiting times are insanely long, and those that are spending an average of 7.5h to get care aren't the only ones that are miffed. Doctors are also frustrated by the wait times.
