Silent Giant
It serves such a great purpose.. and has an overwhelming presence.. yet it doesn't make a sound. Most commuters into the city pass the Lagerwey wind turbine while speeding along the Gardiner/Lakeshore (or in the case of rush hour traffic, while they're 'parked' on the Gardiner/Lakeshore).
If they took the opportunity to see the turbine up close, they would have a different impression of this marvelous beast. From afar the turbine looks more purposeful than majestic. Standing directly under this 'silent giant' is a completely different experience.
It's the sort of feeling you get when you stand under the CN Tower for the first time - but in this case, there are gigantic spinning blades cutting the air mere metres from your face. At night, this imagery becomes more daunting as the white blades shimmer in the moon.
It can provide power to roughly 250 homes; but to me, its presence is just as impressive.
